    Discover the new Egypt

We tend to look at Egypt as a big desert. It’s probably the stereotypical image that’s imprinted by culture. After all, the biggest landmarks of Egypt – the Pyramids and the Sphinx – are in the middle of the desert. But there’s so much more to discover about Egypt, I don’t even know where to start. There are some issues that people have when it comes to visiting Egypt. One of them is safety. There are rumors of terrorist attempts on tourist destinations or even just tourist busses in Egypt, but security has been a lot tighter and these occurrences are becoming increasingly sporadic. There is also the matter of the cultural clash. Egypt is a Muslim country, and as such it might appear conservative in the eyes of a Western tourist. The only advice I can give you on that matter is to respect the culture and remember that you are a guest in the country.

Tourism in Egypt used to be primarily focused on sightseeing. There are plenty of historical sites of interest in Egypt, not only the pyramids. The Valley of the Kings – with the famous tomb of Tutankhamen – and the temple complex at Karnak, for example, are other amazing sites you can visit in the country. But there are some other options for Egypt holidays that you can take, or even mix around with the “normal”, sightseeing holidays.

Egypt has been working hard on renewing its image, while maintaining the image of an amazing tourist destination for people who like historical tourism. Truth is there are amazing beaches in Egypt. The northern beaches in Egypt, by the Mediterranean Sea, are beautiful but, in my opinion, the beaches on the coast of the Sinai Peninsula are the most beautiful. The Red Sea is amazingly beautiful and there are some seriously amazing holiday destinations out in that area of the country.

One of the most beautiful cities in that zone is Sharm el Sheikh. Sharm el Sheikh holidays are an amazing experience, something that will make you wonder why more people aren’t told about the beauties of it. The tourist officials in Sharm el Sheikh are catering the town to the needs of the demanding tourist. The hotels are great and offer a wide variety of activities that you can be a part of. The most fun I had was scuba diving; that was an amazing experience – the Red Sea reef may not be comparable in size to other more famous reefs, but it’s still equally beautiful.
